Auto Industries Top Out ‘Best of British Industry’ Awards

The winners of the 2006 Best of British Industry Awards are announced today.
The awards were presented at a special ceremony at the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, London, hosted by comedian Rory McGrath, and attended by top figures from the business community.

Samir Brikho, chief executive of AMEC, the engineering and support services company that organised the awards in association with The Sunday Times and The Work Foundation, the research and consultancy organisation, said: ‘The Best of British Industry Awards were created to make a point - that industrial companies in Britain are dynamic and thriving. I am thrilled that the awards have made that point so forcefully. They have showcased industry moving forward with confidence in its future on the global business stage.’

All-new Ford S-MAX voted Car of the Year

Ford Europe has issued the following press release:

The ‘Car of the Year’ is an international award, judged by a panel of 58 top motoring journalists from 22 European countries. Its objective is to acclaim the most outstanding new car to go on sale in the 12 months preceding the date of the title. It is organised by a group of seven leading European publications: Auto ( Italy), Autocar ( Great Britain), Autopista ( Spain), Auto Visie ( Holland), L’Automobile Magazine (France), Stern ( Germany), and Vi Bilagare ( Sweden).

Mini voted top used car in UK

The Cowley-built Mini has been voted the best all-round used car in Britain. It topped the list of 40 models in a survey of motoring journalists, winning both the Supermini category and the overall honour.

It polled 65 per cent of the votes in its section, putting it streets ahead of its nearest rival, the Nissan Micra.

The win follows hot on the heels of the launch of the second generation of the Mini at the Cowley plant on Wednesday. During the celebrations, Chancellor Gordon Brown pointed out the Mini has won more than 300 motoring awards worldwide.

Whereas many steroid-fed rivals scream their intentions with lurid colour schemes and bulging wheelarches, the M3 is far more measured in its approach.

Apart from some tasty alloys and a quartet of tail pipes, there?s little to imply the M3 is anything other than a discreet and distinguished sports coupe. Make no mistake, though; the M3 is the consummate performance car, in every sense of the word.
