New F1 tyre markings

Posted on March 8, 2007 @ 9:32 am

Formula One will be introducing a new tyre identification rule for the start of the new race season. This will allow spectators to see which tyres teams are using as all teams will have to use both hard and soft Bridgestone tyres during each race.

Formula One haven’t announced how the tyres will be marked yet, but the race teams are not happy about the new rule, due to the fact that teams will be able to see each others tyre race strategies. The markings will also need to be bold enough for spectators to identify the tyres used whilst the cars are in motion around the track.

Some of the race teams and drivers have also made clear worries they have about having to race on both hard and soft tyres on each track, due to the amount of grip required on different circuits – in the past, teams have used the hard or the soft tyres depending on the amount of grip the circuit requires.
