Bubble car’s a clear winner

Cars like this are so hit and miss, so what do you think? Slick James Bond-esque runabout, or glorified polomint?

Rin for cover - more Porsche-based machinery is set for a storming Geneva Motor Show entrance. And it hasn’t got to travel far - this is the zaZen, brainchild of Swiss design house Rinspeed. It’s based on a 997 Carrera S Cabriolet, and features the supercar’s 355bhp 3.8-litre engine.

While the nose and wheelarches are unmistakeably Porsche, modifications include a 70mm lowered height plus orange and white paint containing millions of miniature Swarovski crystals.

Inside, Recaro sports-style seats made from techno gel mould to fit their occupants’ shape. But this radical design study’s most stunning feature is its transparent teardrop roof. Made from a clear polycarbonate, it gives the perfect panoramic view, yet can be transformed into an eyes-off tinted cover in seconds.

That’s not the only feature which can be faded out; the driver is also able to switch off the dials to concentrate on the speedo. The rear-wheel-drive zaZen hits 182mph and covers 0-60mph in only 4.8 seconds.
