Sport Compact Only has announced the next event in its signature racing and lifestyle series, SCO Nights, which will take place from 5 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, June 25, at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Ariz. The event, which promotes safer alternatives to street racing, will provide teens and tuners an outlet to take their modified street vehicles to the track and race against friends, arch rivals, and even police vehicles in a safe and monitored environment. A popular feature, “Beat the Heat,” will pit brave souls against a modified police cruiser in a quarter-mile drag race.

In addition to the traditional drag racing theme, the event incorporates youth-oriented lifestyle activities such as video games, music, a car show where participants can show off their vehicle modifications and win prizes, a model search where the winner will receive cash and a potential modeling contract with the company, and its latest addition: a drifting exhibition in which lucky participants will get to ride along with a professional driver as they glide through a curvy drifting course in poetic style.

“We feel that the SCO Nights event series has had a positive impact on the community since its inception in 2002 and we strongly believe that it will continue to help keep illegal racing off the streets. Too many lives are lost each year to careless street racing,” said Roger Falcione, CEO and president of the event’s title sponsor Sport Compact Only. “We will continue to sponsor this event as long as we feel this very important message is being heard.”

The event is expected to draw 3,000-5,000 participants and features a host of sponsors including: Muscle Machines, Circuit City, EB Games, Show Stopper, MTX, The Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, Tyco RC, Singh Motorsports, and local Honda, Acura, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi dealerships.
