Tyres - The Key to a Healthy Car

Tyres are one of the most important pieces of equipment on your car. It doesn’t matter how well everything else works, engine, transmission, suspension, even brakes… if the tyres cannot grip the road properly then you have no traction, and therefore no control.

In order to provide the right traction and control a tyre requires adequate tread to shed water and grip the road effectively. They also have to maintain good inflation, in order to have good contact with the ground and so good cornering. Unfortunately tyres are one aspect of a car’s maintenance that tends to get ignored.

With regular inspections and taking your car to be looked over by professionals, you can ensure they won’t let you down and that you’ll know when its time to replace them. At Top Gear we can make sure that your car has exactly the right tyres to match its performance, engine type and model, so give us a call and ask how we can optimise your car for safety and performance.

When driving, you should be watching out for the following warning signs that your tyres might need changing: a side to side wobble at low speeds, increased shimmy or vibration at high speeds, a sharp pull to the side, weaving or fishtailing. These will all start out gradually, so at the first hint of such a problem get your car checked straight away and have some new tyres fitted.
