Choosing Motor Insurance

There may be alot of competition in the Car Insurance business, but the vast majority of drivers are still paying far too much for their insurance. There are a number of steps you can take when searching for an insurer, to make sure you get a good deal:

- Phone around. the most important thing is trying a number of insurers and getting an idea of their prices; play them against each other. Three direct insurers and a couple of brokers is a good number to talk to.

- Alot of insurance firms specialise in a certain area, for example female drivers, or driver over fifty. Find the insurer that will view your details more favourably and give you a better quote.

- It’s equally important to make sure you decide beforehand what insurance you really need, don’t let companies talk you into extras that you don’t really need.

- Quiz the companies on their claims process, because this is perhaps the most important thing you’ll have to do with them, even if you don’t want to think about the eventuality. Cover things like: will the insurer pick your car and deliver it back, how long will repairs be gauranteed for, will you be given a courtesy car…etc.

- One major thing the insurers will look at is the security you have installed in your vehicle - so the presence of alarms, steering-wheel locks, etc, and indeed if your car i stored in a garage overnight, will make a big difference to your quote.

- The insurer will also care how well cared for your car is, whether it’s had new tyres recently or is using the same bald ones it was sold with years ago… your quotes will differ vastly depending on how reliably your car has been looking after and serviced.

- Even after all this insurance, the best way you can find an insurer is by personal recommendation. Find a friend who has had to make a claim, praises the efficiency of their insurer, and then look into that company as a potential.
