Renault wins at Malaysian Grand Prix

Posted on March 21, 2005 @ 10:46 am

Renault’s Fernando Alonso provided Renault with their second win of the 2005 Grand Prix season this weekend. Leading most of the race he never really looked threatened by Toyota’s Jarno Trulli who ended up finishing 24 seconds behind. Third was BMW Williams Nick Heidfeld who drove a storming race from 10th on the grid, showing that the Williams seem to be getting on top of the problems that they had in Australia.

A notable absence to the front runners were the Ferraris with Michael Schumacher finishing in 7th position and Rubens Barichello dropping out due to a piece of rubber in his rear wing making his car virtually undrivable.

Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson (subbing for the ill Takuma Sato) in the BAR Hondas had a rather short race with neither car lasting more than a few laps. This prompted to give a rather heated interview saying that he thought that the team had gone backwards in almost every area compared to last year and that it was simply ‘not good enough’.

6th and 8th for David Coulthard and Christian Klien in the Red Bull cars underlined their performance in Melbourne, putting them 3rd in the title race and certainly making a few people in the pit lane sit up and notice them.

The next race is in Bahrain on 3rd April so be sure to tune in.
